child labor

INSPIRATION: I painted this to honor all the little children put to work, as young as three years old, on farms and in factories, often in dangerous situations, out of greed and ignorance.

Many people worked tirelessly to expose the practice and educate others into action to get President Franklin Roosevelt and Congress to pass child labor laws in 1938.

SURPRISING REALITY: It's hard to imagine that it took until nearly 1940 to get this accomplished but there was great resistance and many blocked the effort, year after year.

Learn more about child labor and the cruelties that were common place 100 years ago in this country and, that unfortunately, still exist around the world.

Please support the work of organizations such as UNICEF and the Child Labor Coalition who are fighting for the rights of child around the world.
