street music

This painting was inspired by a black and white photo taken by Ben Shahn of a blind street musician in 1935. It's dedicated it to the street performers around the world doing their part to make the world a better place.

I had already started the painting in the fall of 2008 when I saw the Bill Moyers interview with Mark Johnson, the producer of a documentary about the power of music entitled, Playing for Change: Peace through Music.

Five video segments from the DVD:
Stand By Me

War/No More Trouble
Don't Worry
Love Rescue Me

Be sure that the next time you pass that performer on the street playing for change, show your appreciation with a little change or a bill or two.

I'm grateful for the change that music makes in our world.

"Imagine all the people living life in peace..."
