Saint Joan of Arc

Saint JOAN of ARC: born in France, 1412. She was burned at the stake at age 19 on May 30, 1431. Her crime was heresy for claiming to have seen visions of Saints who had instructed her to fight in the One Hundred Years' War to free France from English rule and for the crime of cross-dressing.

In 1456 there was an investigation of her trial and she was found innocent and declared a martyr.

Certainly a good example why the death penalty should be abolished.

It wasn't until May 1920 that the Church canonized her a Saint. Be sure to read about Joan and her bravery. It's no wonder there have been so many movies made and books and plays written about her.

"I am not afraid; I was born to do this." -- Joan of Arc

Feast Day: May 30th

Patron Saint of France, martyrs, soldiers and more.

NOTE: It's not exactly clear what was on Joan's banner, if she had one at all. Most likely a fleur-di-lis. Given her strong faith in Christ and HIs Blessed Mother, I painted two symbols on her banner...

The intertwined AM are for Auspice Maria which means under the protection of Mary.

IHS is from the Latin In Hoc Signo which means in this sign.
