The Visitation --- one of the Joyful Mysteries, told in Luke 1:39-55

At the Annunciation, the Archangel Gabriel told Mary that her much older cousin, Elizabeth was also expecting. Elizabeth had been unable to conceive so this was a miracle, due to her age. Excited about her own news of expecting a child, Mary traveled to visit her cousin, Elizabeth who was of course carrying, John the Baptist.

When Elizabeth greeted Mary, Elizabeth exclaimed with a loud cry, "Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb!"

Mary responded with the Magnificat. "My soul doth magnify the Lord." which is shown on the painting in Latin, Magnificat Anima Mea Dominum.
