Saint Catherine

In the original old portrait that inspired me, I see a very tired and over worked young woman. Her face showing concern for all of us --- the burden of much yet to do.

Saint Catherine was born in 1347, in Siena, Italy. She and Saint Francis of Assisi are the patron Saints of Italy. Saint Catherine is also one of three women declared Doctors of the Church. There are 33 Doctors total. The other two women are Saint Teresa of Avila and Saint Therese of Lisieux.

Saint Catherine is the Doctor of Unity. She spent her life caring for the poor and the sick --- dying herself at the young age of 33.
