I painted this from a photo entitled, "The Pope greets Mother Teresa in St. Peter's Basilica in 1997". The photo appears in the book Pope John Paul II: A Light for the World. From the original photo, I removed the throngs of on-lookers, placing them there alone, adding an aura about the two who selflessly dedicated their lives to walking in Christ's path. As I painted, I imagined what they might have thought or whispered to one another there, even if only with their eyes in that moment, "the battle is almost over, our work is nearly done..."
