I was asked to create a cross to hang in a church during Lent. The priest asked me to use the shape of the San Damiano Cross and paint a welcoming Christ. The rest was up to me. I built the shape using birch plywood on a two-inch hardwood frame.

Christ has His arms stretched out wide to welcome us to Him. There are three witnesses to the crucifixion: His Mother, Mary Magdalene and the beloved Apostle John. At the top, two angels watching over His triumphant exit from the tomb.

NOTE: The difference between the San Damiano Cross and the Taize Cross.
